Life as a Pond
I've returned to this blog multiple times over the past three months sometimes for nostalgia's sake but mostly to figure out what to do with it. Part of me wants to just let it be so it can sit untouched in the dusty cyber attic of travel blogs and photo memories. Part of me wants to keep posting, but I'm afraid that the new chapters of my life book won't be as adventurous or entertaining as the past ones (and the pictures won't be nearly so pretty). But that's how I've felt in general these past months. Things have seemed a little stagnant as of late and only just now are the waters beginning to stir again. But I've learned something about still water - that's where things grow. Sure oceans, rivers, and rapids are full of motion and excitement, but ponds are brimming over with life. The water is murky with algea and bacteria - all breaking down the decay and coating every surface with green, gooey life. It's alive. My life is a pond right now. Mucky, cloudy, messy. I can't see through it and nothing seems to be moving much at all. But there's life. So much life that it's coating everything - overwhelming me with alive-ness. And maybe that's why things have been unclear. Maybe amidst the movement and excitement of life we loose some of our alive-ness and forget that it takes stillness for the small yet important things to grow. So maybe I can sit still for a little while longer and let myself grow.
